The Annual NYSAPLS Awards Ceremony was held on Thursday, January 17th in the Riverside Room of the Best Western Binghamton Regency. A number of Alfred State College Surveying students were recognized for their academic and professional achievements in 2001.

The Allegheny Plateau Association of Professional Land
Surveyors recently endowed their annual scholarship as the Robert J. Lucas
Memorial Scholarship in honor of Bob Lucas, a long time APAPLS Associate
member and employee of the New York State Department of Transportation
(Region 6), Right-of-way Mapping Section in Hornell, New York. Bob
("Luke" to his friends) passed away in 2000, and it was decided to dedicate
the sholarship in his memory at the 2002 NYSAPLS Conference since both
he and his wife were originally from Binghmton. Jim Ball LS, current
APAPLS President, introduced Bob's wife Bernie who attended the awards
ceremony to accept the endowment in her husband's memory, and to present
the scholarship to this year's recipient, Bill Kinne.
